LastMile — Product Specification

Status: Planned (Build after FinalFile) Priority: P2 — Extends End-of-Life stack to active dying

Overview

LastMile supports people through the dying process itself — the final months, not the aftermath. While FinalFile handles what happens after death, LastMile helps people live their final chapter intentionally.

Target Users

  • People with terminal diagnoses
  • Elderly people planning their final months
  • Caregivers coordinating end-of-life care
  • Hospice patients and their families

Core Value Proposition

"Make your final chapter meaningful. Leave nothing unsaid."

User Stories

Bucket List & Intentions

As someone with limited time,
I want to identify what matters most to me,
So that I can focus my remaining energy on what's meaningful.

As a dying person,
I want to track my bucket list items,
So that I can make sure important things happen.

Legacy Recording

As a parent,
I want to record video messages for my children,
So that they have my voice and face to remember.

As a grandparent,
I want to share family stories,
So that our history isn't lost when I'm gone.

Family Coordination

As a dying person with many loved ones,
I want to coordinate who visits when,
So that I'm not overwhelmed and everyone gets time.

As a family member,
I want to know what the dying person needs,
So that I can help meaningfully.

When user finishes a legacy recording: - Option to "Add to FinalFile" for post-death delivery - Original remains in LastMile for review/editing - Copy encrypted and stored in FinalFile vault

Encryption Model

Default: Class B (Escrowable)

LastMile content is meant to be shared: - With family during life (some items) - With recipients after death (legacy items)

Some Class A for Coordination

Visitor calendar and coordination features need to be server-readable for notifications: - "Mom's visit is in 2 hours" - "Dad wants to see you this week"

UI Approach

Simplicity for Difficult Times

Users may be: - Physically weak - Cognitively impaired - Emotionally overwhelmed - On medication

Design principles: - Large text, high contrast - Minimal clicks to accomplish tasks - Voice input where possible - Auto-save everything - "Good enough" over "perfect"

Emotional Sensitivity

Copy should be: - Warm but not saccharine - Direct but not clinical - Hopeful where appropriate - Never dismissive of difficulty

Pricing
